Whispers From You

Today the sea was grey with white flashes,

Like your eyes.

Making me wonder how,

How do I survive the storm and endure the waves of pain?

How do I embrace the sea's forces?

But from the cliff's edge where I watched her fists pummel

Against the chest of stone,

I felt a pulse through the earth to my soul,

Your heart beating into mine

Today the mountains reared, crags of granite by flowered fields,

Like your image.

Making me wonder how

How do I scale your indestructible walls

And get behind them?

But as I stood staring, I watched a storm's water low

Carving through the rock

To the meadows of colour, a reflection

Of your smile.

I went to the forest today, trees broadened by weather,

Like your shoulders.

As they shook, I wondered,

How do they endure the years of squalls

That threaten to destroy?

But sheltered beneath their branches, they leaned and murmured,

Urging me to bend through the gales

That will pass and become just whispers

From you.
